The Kansas City Physical Activity Ecosystem Mapping Project, initiated by Children’s Mercy Kansas City and the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership at UMKC, aims to document and analyze the ecosystem supporting children's physical activity in the Greater Kansas City area. The project created a comprehensive database detailing organizations and programs that promote youth physical activity across six populous counties. This conceptual "map" identifies elements and interrelationships within the ecosystem, without evaluating program effectiveness. Data collection concluded in November 2024, and the report aims to help leaders understand the landscape of physical activity programs, providing insights into the ecosystem's development while acknowledging its dynamic nature.
